Copyright Complaints

Version: Interim version 2026-10-31 · In effect from: 31 October 2026

BeatCadence respects copyright. This page explains what we hold, how to send a complaint, how a user can respond, and what happens to people who infringe again and again. It is part of our Terms of Service.

What we hold, and for how long

BeatCadence is not a music or map hosting site. Nothing is published or shared publicly.

This means that by the time you see a map, we almost certainly no longer hold it or the song it was made from. If a map made with BeatCadence appears on another site (for example BeatSaver, YouTube or a file-sharing site), that site hosts it. Please send your complaint to that site as well; it is the one that can take the file down.

Every BeatCadence map carries a marker saying it was AI-generated by BeatCadence (_customData.beatcadence.aiGenerated: true in Info.dat), which can help you identify one.

How to send a complaint

Send your notice to our designated agent, the operator of BeatCadence, by email at beatcadenceapp@gmail.com.

Your notice must include:

  1. your physical or electronic signature (you, or someone authorised to act for the copyright owner);

  2. the copyrighted work you say was infringed (or, for several works, a representative list);

  3. the material you say infringes, with enough detail for us to find it (for example a job ID, the date and time, or the map's title), and where you saw it;

  4. your name, postal address, phone number and email;

  5. a statement that you believe in good faith that the use is not authorised by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law; and

  6. a statement that the information in your notice is accurate and, under penalty of perjury, that you are the copyright owner or authorised to act for them.

Under US law (17 U.S.C. § 512(f)), anyone who knowingly makes a false claim that material infringes may be liable for damages.

What we do with a complaint

When we receive a notice that meets the requirements above, we will:

If the material was already deleted under our normal schedule, we will tell you so. We may still record the notice against the account if we can identify it.

Counter-notice (if you think we got it wrong)

If your material was removed and you believe it was a mistake, or that you had the right to use it, you can send a counter-notice to the designated agent above. It must include:

  1. your physical or electronic signature;

  2. the material that was removed and where it was before it was removed;

  3. a statement, under penalty of perjury, that you believe in good faith that the material was removed or disabled by mistake or misidentification;

  4. your name, address and phone number; and

  5. a statement that you consent to the jurisdiction of the US Federal District Court for the district where your address is (or, if your address is outside the US, any judicial district in which we may be found), and that you will accept service of process from the person who sent the original notice, or their agent.

When we receive a valid counter-notice, we will send a copy to the person who sent the original notice. Unless they tell us within 10 to 14 business days that they have started a court action, we may restore the material, if we still have it, and remove the strike from your account. Because we delete files on a short schedule, restoring the file itself is usually not possible; you can make the map again.

Repeat infringers

We will close the accounts of users who repeatedly infringe copyright, in appropriate circumstances. An account that receives two or more valid notices that are not resolved by a counter-notice will be closed. Because each BeatCadence account is linked to one Patreon account, a closed account cannot start new maps with the same Patreon account, even if it is deleted and signed in again.

Complaints from Australia and other countries

You do not need to be in the US to send a complaint. We handle every complaint the same way, whatever country it comes from.
